What Mounjaro is
Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, the first medicine to act on both the GIP and GLP‑1 receptors. It is given as a once-weekly injection under the skin using a pre-filled pen.
The strength is usually increased gradually. The right dose, and whether the medicine is suitable at all, are decided by a prescriber on the basis of the approved product information.
Two incretin receptors, one molecule
Tirzepatide mimics two gut hormones released after meals: it increases glucose-dependent insulin release, reduces glucagon, slows gastric emptying and reduces appetite.
In SURMOUNT-1, adults with obesity or overweight without diabetes lost substantially more weight with tirzepatide than with placebo over 72 weeks.1
Side effects and warnings
The most commonly reported side effects are gastrointestinal, usually during dose increases:
- Nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting and constipation
- Reduced appetite, indigestion and abdominal pain

Common questions
Do I need a prescription?
Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine. After your request, the partner pharmacy verifies whether and how supply is possible, for example through an existing prescription or an assessment by an independent doctor where permitted.
How is it different from Wegovy?
Wegovy contains semaglutide, which acts on the GLP‑1 receptor only. Tirzepatide also acts on the GIP receptor.
Why is the dose increased gradually?
Starting low and increasing step by step helps to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. The schedule is set out in the product information and is decided by the prescriber.
Do I pay when I send a request?
No. Payment is arranged individually with customer service once your request has been reviewed and can proceed.
