Overview

What Viagra is

Viagra contains sildenafil, a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. It is used for erectile dysfunction and works only with sexual stimulation.

Suitability and dosing are decided by a prescriber on the basis of the approved product information.

How it works

PDE5 inhibition, with sexual stimulation

During sexual stimulation, nitric oxide raises levels of cGMP in the penis, relaxing smooth muscle and increasing blood flow. Sildenafil blocks PDE5, the enzyme that breaks down cGMP, so the natural response is stronger and lasts longer. Without sexual stimulation it has no effect.

PDE5Inhibited; cGMP breaks down more slowly.
TimingUsually taken about one hour before sexual activity.

In placebo-controlled trials, sildenafil improved erections in men with erectile dysfunction of different causes.1

FAQ

Common questions

Do I need a prescription?

Viagra is a prescription-only medicine. After your request, the partner pharmacy verifies whether and how supply is possible, for example through an existing prescription or an assessment by an independent doctor where permitted.

When should it be taken?

Usually about one hour before sexual activity, and not more than once a day. A heavy meal can delay its effect.

Does it work without sexual stimulation?

No. It strengthens the natural response to sexual stimulation and does not cause an erection by itself.

Do I pay when I send a request?

No. Payment is arranged individually with customer service once your request has been reviewed and can proceed.
