What finasteride 1 mg is
Finasteride inhibits the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, which converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). At 1 mg it is used for male pattern hair loss, as set out in its product information.
Less DHT at the hair follicle
Finasteride inhibits type 2 5-alpha-reductase, the enzyme that converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the scalp. Lower DHT slows the miniaturisation of hair follicles that causes male pattern hair loss.
In two one-year trials in men with male pattern hair loss, finasteride 1 mg increased hair counts compared with placebo.1 The effect is reversed within about 12 months of stopping.
Side effects and warnings
Reported side effects include:
- Reduced libido, erectile dysfunction and ejaculation disorders
- Breast tenderness or enlargement
- Depression and, rarely, suicidal thoughts.2

Common questions
Do I need a prescription?
Finasteride 1 mg is a prescription-only medicine. After your request, the partner pharmacy verifies whether and how supply is possible, for example through an existing prescription or an assessment by an independent doctor where permitted.
How long does it take to work?
Effects usually appear after 3–6 months of daily use. If treatment is stopped, the effect is reversed within about 12 months.
Does it affect PSA tests?
Yes. Finasteride roughly halves PSA values. Tell your doctor that you take it before any prostate test.
Do I pay when I send a request?
No. Payment is arranged individually with customer service once your request has been reviewed and can proceed.
