What Zepbound is
Zepbound contains tirzepatide, the same active ingredient as Mounjaro. In the US it is authorized for chronic weight management in adults with obesity, or with overweight and at least one weight-related condition, and for moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity. It is given as a once-weekly injection under the skin.
As of September 2026 we found no UK marketing authorization for Zepbound; in the UK, tirzepatide is supplied as Mounjaro. Suitability and dosing are decided by a prescriber on the basis of the approved product information.
GIP and GLP‑1, one weekly injection
Tirzepatide acts on the receptors of two gut hormones released after meals, GIP and GLP‑1. Together these effects reduce appetite and food intake, slow gastric emptying and improve blood glucose control.
In SURMOUNT-1, adults with obesity or overweight without diabetes lost substantially more weight with tirzepatide than with placebo over 72 weeks.1 In SURMOUNT-OSA, it reduced the severity of obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity.2
Side effects and warnings
The most commonly reported side effects are gastrointestinal:
- Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation and abdominal pain, mostly while the dose is being increased
- Reduced appetite, indigestion and injection-site reactions
- Gallbladder problems, including gallstones

Common questions
Do I need a prescription?
Zepbound is a prescription-only medicine. After your request, the partner pharmacy verifies whether and how supply is possible, for example through an existing prescription or an assessment by an independent doctor where permitted.
How is it different from Mounjaro?
The active ingredient is the same. In the US, Mounjaro is authorized for type 2 diabetes and Zepbound for weight management and obstructive sleep apnea, each with its own product information.
Is Zepbound available in the UK?
As of September 2026 we found no UK marketing authorization for Zepbound. In the UK, tirzepatide is authorized as Mounjaro, including for weight management.
Why is the dose increased gradually?
Starting low and increasing step by step helps to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. The schedule is set out in the product information and is decided by the prescriber.
Do I pay when I send a request?
No. Payment is arranged individually with customer service once your request has been reviewed and can proceed.
